I had the greatest child hood that anyone could ever want. I remember running around with my brother's Robert & Ronnie Crowley. Those were the great times of my life. I'll name a lot of locations where the Crowley kids used to hang-out such as: The Panther Boy's Club, Sycamore Rec center, Sycamore Park miniture golf course just adjacent to the Rec Center, The Clover Drive In, Mott's 5 & 10 on Rosedale, Ashburns Ice Cream (The Best), L&H Drug on Rosedale, the Griddle on Vaughn, Bernards Griddle on E. Lancaster, Jolly Time Skating Rink on Miller, Downtown Ft. Worth at Leonards, The Varsity & Poly theaters, Sycamore & Berry Swimming Pools, we used to go to the Meadowbrook Bowling Alley and Panther Hall set just behind it on Collard & E. Lancaster. We all threw the Fort Worth Press in the poly area. My oldest sister Diane had her great friends as well. My"BEST FRIENDS" and second families were: George & Dorothy Schneider (Dennis, Ronnie & Nancy), Fred & Louise Almond (Freddie & Billie Bowles), Mike & Pat Rice, Brian Mazzie, Glen & Mike Welch, Terry Powell. Whether we were throwing Snow Ball's at car's (Back then we used to get snow!!!) or playing baseball, basketball in the (old gym) or football on the field at Texas Wesleyan College now known as Texas Wesleyan University, we had a blast. We all used to box at Sycamore Rec Center. I could go on for hours about Poly Elementary, William James and the entire POLY AREA!!!!! Thank you for the M-E-M-O-R-I-E-S once again, keep up the "GREAT WORK." |

It was be so heartwarming to our family to find the film from that night as she later became a gospel singer and accomplished gospel and country & western song writer. Any lead you might give would be so appreciated. Thank you, Yvonne W. |

I am proud to say I was inducted into the Country Music Association of Texas Hall of Fame Febuary 17th. Such an honor. Standing Ovation for Rick Phillips for having the "Panther Hall" site.I would have to write a book to tell you every thing. Some of the best years of my life were at Panther Hall. I spent many a day hanging around with Corky and Bill. They set me up with the "Loft" and the Anex across the street. I became part owner of Panther Hall because of them taking such an interest in me.I'm for ever grateful to them.I opened the show with my band and then Bill Mack would come on stage and introduce the special guest. Some like Hank Thompson had their own band but most booked in as a single with my band backing them.Because of that I played with a host of big names. Most any name you can think of during that time crossed our stage. Loads of great memories not to mention friends. I would really like to hear from any of you. Please write to me at pat@patgrogan.com |

We wondered if the show would be cancelled but when we slid into the parking lot it was obvious the show would go on. Spirit ... I caught Jay Ferguson's tamborine he tossed out at the end of the show. My girlfriend banged that thing all the way back to the apartment. Canned Heat ... they opened for somebody, and after their set the roadies put all their stuff right down in front of the stage where my gang were standing. One of our group swiped a Shure mic off its stand, and somehow I ended up with it... still have it if any of Bob Hite's heirs want to claim it. Johnny Winter... I was an ace at sneaking backstage at concerts, whatever the venue. Went back and talked music with Johnny (I'd spoken with him before at the Texas International Pop Fest). |

I was just watching a show on channel 13 called Fort Worth: Post cards from the past and saw the building and it brought back alot of thoughts. So I googled Panther Hall and found your site. Very nice! It would be nice if any one remembers my dad. He is still kicking right here in Ft. Worth and loves to talk about the good times. He played for alot of famous people in country. I remember when I was about 10, it was 3-4 in the morning and I woke up to find Loretta Lynn in our living room talking to my mom and dad. Something I will never forget. Thanks for the web site. |

I grew up living across the street out in Tarrent County from Corky Kuykendall and his wife at that time, Mary. Used to go over and exercise his race ponies. This was in the early 60s. After Corky died, Mary moved into a smaller place on the land. In the 90s I became acquainted with her again doing some fishing in one of her ponds in exchange for helping her around the place. At that time she showed me boxes of reel to reel audio tapes that Corky had made from Panther Hall. He had a stage mike that he turned on and just let run every night any one was on stage. After Mary moved to Arkansas? with to live with her sister I think it was. I went back over the abandoned place and it has fallen in. Did not find that box of tapes but it could well have been there.. What a loss. Trying now to find Mary again about some land that shows her as owner out in Johnson County Texas. Anyone have any idea where she is? Is she still living? Any thing? Thanks for the memories!! |

Dolly was,I believe, about 21 years old, just starting her career. I sang two songs, but I remember having to change one of my songs at the last minute because Dolly was singing that very song. I remember a funny thing, I hemmed my pants too high, but still had to wear them. It was a good show and all went well! It may have been 1977 but more likely 1978, the event was a concert by The Ramones! for those familiar with them, their album Rocket To Russia was the release they were promoting. The opening band was The Runaways, the all girl band fronted by Joan Jett and Lita Ford... the former member, Cherie Currie had departed and they were a reformed power punk 4 piece band... aside from nearly wiping out from the ice the roads, the show ROCKED! Back then, especially for our area, this music was usually regarded as strange, crappy, queer or whatever the titles-du-jur that were used then... this was the era of Led Zepplin along with bands like Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. I don't recall a huge crowd but the place was by no means empty. This may very well have been only the second tour by a "major?" Punk band to tour through Texas, the first being The Sex Pistols at Bronco Bowl. The runaways were very good (I thought) and he Ramones kicked by arse with each 1 1/2 - 2min song. My ears did not stop ringing for days! |

I managed the store from 1979 through 1984 and for a short time during it's closing. During the closing, my employees and I made a last-ditch effort to keep the store open by having customers sign a petition. Many signed the petition but to no avail. The corporate office had their minds made up already. What I remember most were the wonderful people that would regularly visit and shop at the store. Many would tell me stories of their current and past experiences in the Polytechnic area. They would also share their hopes and dreams for the future. Christmas time and Halloween were always the most enjoyable times of the year for me working at Mott's. Halloween was the busiest sales day of the year. School opening was always the biggest nightmare due to teachers requiring parents to purchase supplies that were not on the school list. The kids faces were all glowing with the anticipation of another school year. I loved the store's wood floors and strived to keep chewing gum, cigarette butts, and ice cream cones from Ashburn's picked up. Every now and then I'd oil the wood floors to keep them looking great and to make the store smell good. I didn't say much about the store being haunted back in the days I was manager for fear the public would think I was somewhat deranged. My employees and I spoke of the ghost or ghosts to each other often. Weird and unexplainable happenings would occasionally occur in the store. Working at the Rosedale store was an exiting and fun time in my life. I have very fond memories of the Polytechnic area and especially of the people that made it great! Ron Mickle Hitchcock, Texas |
